There's more to owning a car than the monthly payment and gas Getting Around Jeremy Vohwinkle / 04:32 PM, Monday, January 18, 2010 / / Report this / Vote this up / 0

When I talk to people about their cars the conversation always revolves around the monthly payment and gas mileage. It makes sense because if you have to finance a new or used car purchase you're really focusing on what effect that monthly payment has on your bottom line. Then, depending on how much you drive you're probably going to then focus on how much gas is going to cost. But don't forget insurance! The kind of car you drive can play a significant role in your overall auto expenses. Here are the least expensive cars to insure from 2009.

Sticking to a modest Kia, Honda, or Mazda may run you less than $100/month to insure. If you want a luxury BMW, Lexus, or even a Hummer, expect to pay well over double. Even if you could swing the higher car payment you don't want to ignore the new $200+ you'll be paying each month to insure it. And that's just one car. Many married couples have two or more cars to insure, which can really start to drag down the family budget!
