Insure! (Unsure, unsure): Am I paying too much for insurance? Insurance, Insurance Logan Sachon / 07:42 PM, Sunday, March 14, 2010 / / Report this / Vote this up / 0

As part of my never-ending quest to become an adult, I signed up for more insurance this week. I added short-term disability and accident insurance to my existing health coverage. I pay $64 a month for healthcare (I work for an awesome company!); $12 for accident insurance (not a bad idea since I have a job where a hurt knee or twisted ankle would sideline me - I'm a florist and have to be able to carry buckets of water and set up carts and displays, etc.); and $24 a month for short-term disability.

I also upped my car insurance coverage and added renters insurance; I now pay $97 a month for those combined. That puts my monthly insurance payments at $197, totally in the 90th percentile for my demographic! When I turn 26 and bump up to the next age group, I'll be a little more in line with what many of my peers are spending, but I'll still be outspending the majority of them. So what gives! Am I actually an adult in this one very important area? I really don't think I'm overspending on any of it - I shopped around! - but it's interesting that my insurance payments are so much more than women my age.

What do you spend on insurance each month? Do you think you are over-insured? Under insured? Just right?

(PS For Bundle dataa, all insurance types fall under the insurance bracket under healthcare!)
