Hotel tempts travelers with freebies. Open minibar anyone? Travel Barbara Rockwell / 10:55 PM, Thursday, July 29, 2010 / / Report this / Vote this up / 0

Baggage fees, Internet fees, airplane toilet fees -- lately, the travel industry seems bent on wrenching every last penny from travelers. But the Hyatt Andaz is taking another tack: giving things away.

As USA Today recently noted, the luxury chain offers a surprisingly nice bundle of freebies to guests. While relaxing in public areas, you can enjoy complimentary wine, espresso, and fresh fruit. Or you can hole up in your room to surf the Internet free of charge while munching on free minibar snacks. That's right, Andaz offers complementary minibar food and non-alcoholic beverages.

Sure, Andaz room rates aren't terribly cheap to begin with (quick check for an August stay: $295 per night in New York, $189 in West Hollywood), but who doesn't like something for nothing? I think I actually squealed the time I found my hotel room had a free mini sewing kit. Have you gotten any good hotel freebies? And which others would influence where you book?
