Here I've compared the youngest age group (18-25) to the oldest (65+). The biggest similarities are in shopping (the kids spend $30 more per month) and food & drink (the elders spend $10 more per month). Obviously, different commodities and meals are being purchased by each group, but both like to shop and eat out. Of course, neither group is typically burdened with middle-life financial concerns like providing for children and maintaining large homes. I'm reading a book called Ritual by Malidoma Patrice Some, which talks about his mystical childhood in the West African nation of Burkina Faso. He describes the sacred relationship between grandfather and grandson: one has recently left the spirit world, and one is preparing to return there. Their mutual proximity to that other life gives them a special bond, while the father lingers in the middle, too preoccupied with the day-to-day business of life to really understand either.
