We're nerds here at Bundle. Big huge number nerds who like to analyze and quantify everything. Ev-er-y-thing.
Recently, we ran the keynote speeches from both the Democratic and Republican national conventions through the digital wringer in order to separate the most common phrases of various lengths, the most utilized rare English words, and even the intended grade level (for the record, Condoleezza Rice scored the highest for her address).
Then we started thinking about what other large chunks of text can we geek-up beyond recognition? And then it hit us: Rap lyrics. Hip-Hop is ripe with verbose hunks of big meaty lyrical data points that we can prod and poke to our near-Asbergerial heart's content.
This is, of course, completely unfair as these bouts of rhythmic poetry were never intended to live-up to the same analysis as academic writing. To which we counter: Whatever, life isn't fair. And also: deal with it, rap face.
Here we present the mathematical deconstruction of the lyrics from the top hits by T.I., Eminem, Lil Wayne, Kanye West, and Jay-Z.
