We get closer to health care, carmakers' issues accelerate, and Warren Buffett does his best Axl Rose
-$811: At last! The health reform vote is finally near. But why would a state like Idaho wait for a vote before mounting a challenge? Is it the $940 billion price tag? It could lower the deficit by $130 billion and save another $1 trillion in future expenses. (Hmm, I don't totally get that accounting either.)
+$220: Most important analysis you haven't read this week: the 2,200-page report chronicling the failure of Lehman Brothers. It's certainly more relevant to the increasingly fiery debate over financial reform than classic rock or little punk staffers. Though Warren Buffett as Axl Rose is pretty hot, don't you think?
+$38: Congress was busy this week: it also sent a $38 billion jobs bill to President Obama's desk to sign. No word, however, on how the new legislation will help poor(er) CEOs, whose compensation dropped an average of 13 percent last year.
-$55: Looks like Toyota isn't the only carmaker with accelerating issues. Ford and Chrysler both have reported deaths due to cars that sped up unintentionally. Then Honda recalled 410,000 vehicles this week. If you're shopping for a car these days, maybe it's time to rethink the extended warranty.
-$14: Everyone has household expenses that irritate, just on principle. Like $4 razors. Or musty Tylenol. Or $8 million in New York taxi overcharges. Worse yet? Sarah Palin's $1 million per-episode TV appearance fee for a show about Alaska.
+$4: Spring is here! Go out and plant a garden — maybe money really will grow on trees this year.
This week's total: -$618. Over budget again. At least you can win some free food at Denny's. Even foodies on food stamps are making do these days.
