From BundleHQ: Do you spend more to be green?
As of a couple of years ago, all the taxis in NYC started taking credit cards. Who wins? You do, if you're drunk and out of cash, and so, I suspect, do the drivers. When you swipe, you're asked to input the amount of your tip — with suggested increments at 15, 20, and 25 percent. This is audacious: even the most generous people I know don't tip 25 percent. Unless, perhaps, they are drunk and out of cash.
It's Earth Day! Or, as I like to call it, my half-birthday! Which means plenty of time to find me that perfect gift, or as Kate reminds us, only 246 shopping days until Christmas.
Champagne wishes and caviar dreams: Last month, we looked at the spending habits of America's biggest cities. Today, we adopt our best Robin Leach to visit some of America's wealthiest suburbs to see how on earth they're spending all that money. Preview: they have not filled their indoor-outdoor swimming pools with $100 bills.
Back to frugal reality: Is there anything more withering than the glare of a cocktail waitress when you pass on a beverage, a bitter look that says, "I didn't put on this tight ironic t-shirt for nothing, you cheap jerk"? No wonder Kate feels bad about parking her teetoataling self at the bar with friends. At the same time paying $3 for a club soda with lime also feels wrong. I say: don't order anything, but do tip. Who else has strategies for Kate?
Psycho babysitters, secrets of online dating sites, and grocery coupons: It's all in the weekly Bundle, out today. Don't miss! (Sign up in the box on the right.)
