From BundleHQ: Do you plan to give money to help the oil spill cleanup?
The side that wins the World Cup will receive $31 million in prize money. See, "side" is soccer for "team." Also, football is soccer for soccer. I'm so glad the games have begun!
Expensive stuff I don't even have enough money to be sick of: What are you doing this weekend? I'm going to spend a couple of nights in the $35,000 per night Ty Warner suite at the Four Seasons. While I'm there, I'm going to take a $50,000 bubble bath and, if I get the munchies, order a $1,000 pizza. The way I figure, it's that or have children.
Cheap stuff I could use more of: Discount department stores like Loehmann's and Filene's Basement are troves of cut-rate fashion. Also: half-off makeup and tweezers and stuff to make your hair pretty, reports Kate. (This is a big deal: Tweezers are surprisingly expensive!) Or if you prefer your makeup to be free, and in adorable mini-bottles, stores like Macy's and Nordstrom let you search for "gift with purchase" cosmetics, Barbara points out. Is there an equivalent thing for men? Non-makeup-wearing men, that is? I'm asking, because I really have no idea.
Get smart: Now that the World Cup is underway, we're all going to get to play a little bit of hooky from work, hit the bars for 7:30 a.m. kickoffs, and say things like, "I bet the Mannschaft will really take it to the Socceroos." Before you break out your vuvuzela, check out Goldman Sachs' 2010 World Cup Research Report (PDF, or linked to here)a remarkably readable 70-page analysis of the countries in this year's tournament, as well as a discussion of how economic growth and development affects soccer prowess.
Travel deals, the worst drinks in America, and the illogic behind a BP boycott: It's all in the Weekly Bundle, which we'll post later today. Or, you could just get it in your email every week. Up to you.
Question of the day: New estimates put the oil flowing from the Deepwater Horizon spill at 25,000 barrels a day. Are you giving money to help the cleanup? And just so no one feels bad: I am not. Yet.
