She also raised the question of whether it's rude to encourage guests to bring something to a party. Consensus: No way! Email a list to your guests and make it a potluck, or set up a Google doc and have people sign up for something to bring. Perhaps Doodle, my favorite nerdy-social scheduler, can help with this.
