Congratulations! Meet the winners of Bundle's Bring Your Lunch to Work contest
A few months ago, we embarked on a campaign. No - we started a movement. To encourage people to get off the $10-salad lunchtime merry-go-round, we created the Bring Your Lunch to Work Contest. The rules were simple: Pack your lunch, take a picture of it, and post the photo on our Facebook page.
And! So much deliciousness. There were stuffed peppers, garden-grown salads, homemade soups. And sandwiches! Pastrami, turkey, PB&J. And all manner of camouflaged, dressed-up leftovers - if you wrap last night's dinner in a tortilla, it's lunch! For dessert, we like bananas. Occasionally: cookies.
But there could only be three winners. All right, four. We are grateful to our celebrity judges, Ben Leventhal of NBC Feast and Amanda Hesser and Merrill Stubbs of Food52.com, for helping us separate the truly delicious from the merely tasty. Our winners received a limited edition, custom Bundle lunch box, designed by the very talented Chris Pace, but perhaps more importantly, they have earned our respect and inspired us anew. Go forth, and brown bag it.
Nora Leah Sherman:
What's in Nora Leah Sherman's lunch: Greens pie with kale and Swiss chard from her garden and beet greens. Kale and arugula salad with sweet potato and Parmiggiano-Reggiano. Romantic aside: She picked the kale and arugula the night before, in the rain. Judges note: "Nora created a balanced, sustainable and, seemingly, quite satisfying meal."
Sheal Patel:
What's in Sheal Patel's lunch: Chicken pot stickers, basmati rice, and vegetable medley. Gratuitous brand recognition: It's all from Trader Joe's! Judges note: "The presentation is very impressive. Every meal should look this good."
Beth Moncel:
What's in Beth Moncel's meze lunchbox: Hummus, mediterranean white bean salad, stuffed grape leaves, tzatziki on a bed of spinach. Plus pita. What it cost her: $2.93. Judges note: "Simply lovely."
Winner in the special, "most expensive, not-really-a-meal" category:
"Brooksley Boyd"
What's in "Brooksley Boyd's" lunch: A banana, a hazelnut coffee, and a Ritalin. Why "Brooksley Boyd" has insisted on a pseudonym: "I wouldn't mind being the poster child for ADD, but unless I'm getting paid for my endorsement and starring in my very own Ritalin ads, I think I'd best keep it as quiet as possible. Heh."
