Buying processed foods to lose weight. Does the Twinkie diet work?
Last year, Kansas State University human nutrition professor Mark Haub ate nothing but processed foods like Twinkies, powdered donuts and Doritos for 10 weeks. Eating junk food is usually a surefire way to gain weight and become unhealthy, but Haub limited is daily intake of calories to 1,800, and as a result, lost 27 pounds and lowered his "bad" cholesterol by 20 percent.

So how is Professor Haub faring now?
Currently back to eating three meals a day consisting of food like turkey sandwiches and peanut butter — totaling around 2,200 calories — Haub has gained two pounds and increased his cholesterol, CNN reports.
Haub says he wouldn't recommend the junk food diet he went on last year because there isn't enough data available showing that the diet is actually safe to do over an extended period of time, but says people should reconsider how they think about processed food.
"I like them," he told CNN. "I eat them. It's amazing how people believe if it's processed, it's not food."
