America's most charitable cities
The most wonderful time of the year is also the most giving. December is usually the month Americans open their wallets to give to their charitable cause of choice, because we're in a benevolent mood, and thinking about last-minute tax deductions.
Some of us are more generous than others. We examined our data to see which cities gave the most to charities on average over the course of a year (April 2010 to March 2011). And since being generous means more than simply writing a big check, we pulled in 2010 data from Manta and Convio, and analyzed city-by-city data on the number of online donations per 1,000 people, the number of nonprofit associations by city, and the average online donation amount per 1,000 people, and then ranked the top 100 cities by population.
Here are the top 10 most charitable cities in America.
